Michael Elliott

I qualified as a Chiropractor in 1990. I have treated many high profile people over the years. I settled in Torquay and have my own practice from home as well as working from Body & Sole. I am very unusual as my approach to Chiropractic is totally Holistic and not the standard manipulative treatments that people have come to expect from Chiropractic.
I am very gentle and quiet in approach and personality. I have integrity and honesty, and my time and care with patients is of the utmost importance. I am delighted to work with Melissa at Body & Sole as this is the only commercial practice where my approach to treatment and unconventional treatment time are truly welcomed.
I believe in the total holistic approach to client care and assessment. I like to “triage” the person by telephone first. It is a great way of introducing myself and learning about the client. My first consultation is a minimum of an hour for £30.00.
I examine every nerve pathway, motor pathway and reflex. I screen for any medical conditions and ailments. I examine the body posture and the whole “kinetic chain” from head to foot. I assess the emotional, physical, psychological and physiological aspects of the body and mind. I always immediately refer patients to the hospital, GP or Consultant as required. I do not believe in constant adjustment of the skeleton. The Chiropractic manipulative techniques traditionally are rarely used by myself. I use the HVLA technique only when absolutely necessary. I very rarely manually adjust the neck. I apply gentle and appropriate techniques as required. I am aware that many people may have been over-adjusted over time.
I provide joint mobilisation - gentle movement of the joint to increase synovial fluid and smooth joint gliding. Dry needling (form of acupuncture). Motor point activator techniques and trigger point release. I always prescribe corrective exercises and self-help as required.
I find that I spend a lot of time explaining your medical conditions and biomechanical imbalances. I take time to educate what is happening to you, how it happens, why it happens, and most importantly how to make lifetime changes to prevent pain relapses.
I prefer not to call myself a Chiropractor and find the term “musculo-skeletal specialist” most appropriate for my approach and application of treatment.
Note: HVLA means - “high velocity low amplitude” technique Chiropractors use to manipulate the skeletal system.
